Tuscany is the destination OUIJETS is asked for most often, for private-villa weeks, C-suite offsites and family celebrations. It does two things at once: a working city in Florence, and genuinely rural country an hour south of it.
Go in May and June for wildflowers, long evenings and comfortable heat, or in September and early October for the vendemmia, when the wine estates are working and the light is at its best. July and August are hot and crowded. November through March is quiet and often beautiful, with truffle season in November.
Florence's Peretola runway is short and takes only smaller aircraft, so most members arrive at Pisa or Bologna, or into Rome if they are combining the two. Helicopter transfers into Chianti and the Val d'Orcia turn a two-hour drive into twenty minutes.
Among our preferred hotel partners, Four Seasons Hotel Firenze sits inside a walled Renaissance garden in the middle of the city, and the St. Regis is on the Arno a short walk from the Ponte Vecchio. In the country, Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco is a restored estate above Montalcino with its own Brunello vineyards, and COMO Castello Del Nero is a castle property in Chianti, closer to Siena. Any of the four works as a week-long base, or take two and go city then country.
