Brunei
January to May is the drier half. None of our hotel partners operates here, so we place Brunei inside a wider Borneo routing rather than on its own.
Brunei is small, wealthy and almost entirely forested, and it is the one place on this list where the point is the rainforest rather than the city. Ulu Temburong national park is reached by longboat and covers primary lowland forest that has never been logged.
Rain falls all year. January to May is relatively drier and the better half; October to December is the wettest. Humidity is the constant rather than the heat.
None of our preferred hotel partners operates in Brunei, and we would rather say so than dress up a property we do not stand behind. What we do instead is treat Brunei as two or three nights inside a wider Borneo routing and put the strong nights on either side of it.
Ask your advisor about canopy walkway access at Ulu Temburong, proboscis monkey trips on the river, and the alcohol restrictions, which catch out members who have not been before.
